2013 Joel SmokerThe Human Condition is the fifth full length album from Joel Smoker, who adopts the role of a jester holding a mirror up to us with songs that reflect our lives. With this release Joel has enlisted the veteran musician and producer Ian Simpson who was a member of the Slim Dusty Travelling Band for many years. Musicians who contributed to this recording include Ian Simpson (guitar, dobro, banjo and baritone guitar), Dave Clarke (fiddle, mandolin and harmonica), John Mc Nair (bass guitar) and Brendan Leggo on drums. Ian and Brendan provide backing vocals. more > |

The musicians who assisted with the recording were Lucky Oceans on pedal steel guitar, Milton Quackenbush on piano, Ian Simpson on guitar and banjo, Adam Gare on fiddle and mandolin, Ben Franz on Bass guitar and Ric Eastman on drums. Lead vocals are by Joel Smoker and harmony vocals are by Ian Simpson and Adam Gare. This excellent group of musicians has produced a sound that is reminiscent of the Gospel music that comes out of places like New Orleans and Memphis in the U.S.A. more >
As with the previous three albums and The Road to Nullagine EP, Joel has enlisted the help of Lucky Oceans to record this album. The band includes Lucky Oceans on pedal steel guitar and button accordion, Ian Simpson on acoustic and electric guitar and banjo, Adam Gare on fiddle, mandolin and ukulele, Ron Smeeton on bass guitar and Joe Whittle on drums. Ian and Adam also provide harmony vocals. more >

Joel has travelled widely throughout regional Australia and the collection of songs titled Outback reflects his experiences in this part of the country. The songs tell the stories of the people of rural Australia, of their hardships and their joys. more >
